My Work
I am a self taught artist living in Romsey, Hampshire and have been drawing, painting and creating my whole life.
I use a wide range of mediums including Pastels, Acrylics and Oils. My pastel paintings are on pastelmat and the majority of my acrylic and oil paintings are on unstretched canvas or board, for easy transportation. However, when I exhibit my work they are temporarily framed and can be sold as such. I like to mount and frame the majority of my work behind glass with acid free mounts. I am more than happy to sell my work in their display frames but I always recommend that they are professionally framed to enhance the painting as well as ensure they are officially secured and protected.
Painting is an essential part of my life and I spend any spare moment in my day, even if it's just 5 minutes, painting, sketching or sourcing my next piece. My love of all wildlife feeds my appetite to paint any creature that captures my imagination.
The story book series has been inspired by having young children and therefore less time to experience wildlife up close. My imagination has found an outlet in amongst their story books. The series brings wonderful creatures from well known children's classics into the realm of realism. The Collectors Corner series has also been inspired by my children and their obsession with bringing pieces of nature home and gathering it all together for display. I've lost track of how often we have counted out how many shells we have or looked up what birds our collected feathers are from, or re-stacked all the pine cones!
My ambition is to invoke the same emotional connections I experience whilst painting. Not only for the painting itself but also the creature it encompasses. Bringing an animal to life on canvas is an incredibly uplifting feeling and is something I wish to share with all that see my work.
The past couple of years have given me the opportunity to chase my dream of becoming a professional artist. Raising a young family limits my time but I am now delighted to be opening my doors to commissioned work.
